Paw Power Dog Training is a pet dog training business that is committed to using solely humane methods, setting us apart from many other trainers. Through using positive based methods (and having lots of fun!) we strive to educate owners and dogs to be ‘Good Citizens’ in our society.
Anna Tasker of Paw Power Dog Training in Byron is a Delta Society accredited behavioural Trainer with a Certificate IV in Behavioural Training. She is also a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers Australia, the Delta Pet Dog Trainers Association and the Association of Animal Behaviour Professionals. We also attend Seminars and conferences annually and listen to international speakers which enables us to constantly upgrade our knowledge.
Anna has lived in Byronshire for 15 years and has been training owners to train and manage their dogs for 8 years. She owns two Labrador crosses who are both accredited through the Delta Society Australia to be Pet Partner dogs. Previously they have visited the Tweed Valley Clinic at Tweed Heads Hospital and are due to start visits at the Mullumbimby Hospital. This is where Anna takes the dogs into facilities as a volunteer team to provide Canine Therapy. We have also been taking dogs into Crowley Village in Ballina for six years, the residents do really appreciate the contact as many have left their Canine Companions behind.
Paw Power Dog Training offers small group classes (maximum of 6 dogs). We teach Puppy Preschool, K9 Kindy, Adult Beginners class and Adult Beginners agility. We also conduct private consultations for those who are experiencing specific behaviour issues, dogs that are not suited to class, and people who may prefer individual attention. We write behavioural management training programs to help assist people when working with their dogs so that we can help them achieve realistic goals.
Through our methods we aim to teach our clients how to communicate with and understand their dogs, as well as a basic understanding of Canine body language. This enables handlers to acknowledge when their dog is shutting down, stressed, frustrated, or being pushed over its functioning threshold, all things which inhibit the learning process.
We strive to educate people to understand their breed choice, how to use this to their advantage when training, and how to find out what motivates their Canine companions. We educate people to learn to understand their loyal friends so that a relationship of love and trust can be nurtured, as we believe that having a great relationship between an owner and their dog is of paramount importance.
